NonProfitConnect Embarks on Research and Equity Audit for Strategic Plan
In August of 2022, NonprofitConnect (NPC), a community-based organization located in Mercer County, New Jersey, engaged with YRM Consulting Group to implement a qualitative research study (NPC Research and Equity Audit Project) as part of the organization’s strategic planning process.
To strengthen NPC’s strategic development and responsiveness to its work environment, the organization’s leadership team proposed engaging the community they serve in conversations regarding the dynamics and impact of NPC programming, as well as exploring the topic of racial equity within the context of nonprofit Board and organizational leadership and civic participation, generally, across the Central Jersey civic landscape.
Over a nine-month period, YRM Consulting Group assisted NPC to accomplish this task through designing, leading, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive qualitative research study, which spanned 48 participants, 11 focus groups and 4 key-informant interviews.
The resulting findings and recommendations developed spanned both equity-specific areas for growth and expansion and general organizational recommendations and are being integrated into NPC’s latest strategic plan.
NonprofitConnect has an extensive 20+ year history of service to the Central New Jersey nonprofit community dating back to the late 1990’s and has evolved to become an integral partner in building the capacity of the region’s nonprofit sector. Through implementing a robust portfolio of programming that includes such offerings as Board development and placement, organizational leadership development, a host of affinity groups, peer support groups, and other special initiatives, NonprofitConnect has distinguished itself as a premier nonprofit service entity.
The consultant team utilized a multi-level qualitative inquiry with the goal of providing an analysis and understanding of the experiences, sentiments, perspectives, and insights of constituents and stakeholders to inform organizational decisions and allocation of resources.
The study illustrated some qualitative analysis outcomes related to benefits of participation in NonprofitConnect programming; unique areas of learning experienced by program participants; constituent perceived capabilities of NPC as a service provider; expressed constituent development needs for continuous improvement; participant perceptions of equitable treatment and bias experienced in NPC activities; and experiences with onboarding and accessing available programs and resources. A better understanding of these experiences equips NPC to respond and plan with greater accuracy and efficiency.
