Counseling Skills

Counseling skills can be life-changing, for the counselor as well as for the one receiving counseling. Counseling can help people to clarify their problems, identify changes they would like to make, get a fresh perspective, consider other options and look at the impact that life events have made on their emotional well being. 

This training provides participants with basic counseling skills and background information, including the following:

  • Perceptions of Counseling.

  • Comparing counselors, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.

  • Comparing counseling theories.

  • Exploring the effect empathy has on patients.

  • Exploring effective transference.

  • Understanding the difference between directiveness and non-directiveness.

  • Getting acquainted with behavioral therapies.
